Kuwait Representative Office in China (KIRO)
The Kuwait Investment Beijing Representative Office (KIRO) was inaugurated in October 2011 as KIA’s first overseas office since the establishment of Kuwait Investment Office (KIO) London in 1953. KIRO closely works with the head office as well as with KIO and serves as a platform for exploring investment opportunities in China and East Asia. In addition, the Beijing Office is tasked with strengthening KIA’s ties with the Chinese government and companies in order to be among the first to review any new investment opportunities. The office is currently headed by Mr. Abdulrazak Al-Buaijan.
KIRO has been focusing in several main areas but not limited to such as:
QFII: Qualified Foreign Institutional Investors.
KIRO has been liaising with the Chinese regulators CSRC and SAFE to facilitate increasing the quota for KIA and KIO in this area
KIRO has been active in pursuing and increasing KIA's Interbank Bond Market through The People's Bank of China (PBOC) so as to invest in the domestic RMB Interbank Bond Market. KIA is honored to be selected as the first sovereign wealth fund to invest in China RMB bond market under this scheme.
KIRO has been aiding KIA in finding opportunities to invest as a cornerstone investor in local companies and has been successful in concluding several large positions.
